Frequently Asked Questions

Data Source Questions

We currently only support the English language and the following countries - Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom & United States. We will be adding support for other countries & languages in the future.
We obtain the search volume data from Google Keyword Planner. Along with volume, we also get the CPC and Adwords competition from Google Keyword Planner
Other than Google, none of the other companies release their search volume. We therefore, show the search volume, CPC, and competition metrics from the Google Adwords API for all the searches at Keyword Keg. Since the search volume for a keyword at Google and Amazon/Youtube and other sites will be proportional, one can easily compare keywords based on the Google search volume.

Metrics Calculation

  • Search Volume: This is the average number of times that people have searched for a specific keyword and its close variants every month. It is an average of the total searches for this keyword over the last 12 months.
  • CPC: The cost per click (CPC) is the amount that advertisers are paying for a single click for this keyword in Google Adwords. Please note that this just an estimate from Google Adwords, and your actual CPC may vary. In GKP, this is now called "Suggested Bid".
  • Competition: The competition is a gauge of the number of advertisers that are running ads on Google Adwords for this specific keyword. The number goes from 0 to 1, with lower values signifying less number of advertisers and higher values signifying more advertisers.
